What are the Different Mattress Measurements?

While buying a mattress most of us lay stress on the softness, the materials used in manufacturing and color of the mattress. We forget the mattress size. The length and breadth of the mattresses are different for different beds. The mattress size depends on the bed size and for every bed there are various types of mattresses.

Buying a small mattress is a big mistake and if your legs are completely not on the mattress and come out of it then you cannot sleep well. While sleeping in a bed you require enough space for movement and the mattress you choose should be very comfortable to turn and twist at night.

Baby Shower Words, Verses and Sayings For Baby Shower Invitations

When you are planning a baby shower, there are a lot of details you have to finalize, including choosing the baby diaper cake and picking a location. You'll need to gather refreshments, compile a guest list, and handle the decorations. Of course, another factor in your massive list of responsibilities is the baby shower words on those invitations. That means you want to hold off on putting together the shower games, so you'll be able to prepare the appropriate invitation wording whether you are having a formal or an informal celebration.

Baby Shower Invitations for Formal Events

With a formal shower, you're going to want to take care to reflect that tone in your choice of baby shower words. A good way to start these formal invitations is with a phrase such as "You are cordially invited to a baby shower" or "The pleasure of your company is requested at a shower." Follow that line with who the shower is going to be for: the new baby if he or she has already entered the world, the parents-to-be, or the mother-to-be. When you are writing out the wording, be sure to use everyone's full name - that is standard when you are working with formal invitations. Once you reach this point of the wording, you should add in the details of the party, such as the location, date, and time of the baby showers. You also need to have all of the words written out completely. For example, if the shower is being held on the August 30th at noon, you would write it out as "the thirtieth of August at twelve o'clock noon." Remember not to use any types of abbreviations.

At the end of the wording, you'll need to write out the full names of the hosts of the party. Also, this is a good place to add the RSVP information at the bottom of the card unless you are going to be using a separate response card.

Baby Shower Invitations for an Informal Party

Formal invitations aren't needed if you are having a small, casual shower. However, that doesn't mean you can just call or email guests. You should still send out invitations and you will need to be careful with your baby shower words. However, you do have more flexibility with what those cards can say. For example, you could begin the message with "Susan and Jeff invite you to celebrate the approaching birth of Morgan and Matt's new baby at a special shower." Of course, you'd follow this up with celebration details.

Don't forget that if you send out informal invitations you need to plan a casual shower. That means you keep the refreshments simple, the guest list smaller, and the location more private. Just remember that the shower will be a fun experience whether it's formal or informal.

Gifts & the Baby Showers Wording

Finally, you also want to leave off some things from the baby shower words. The main thing you do not want to include is any information about gifts or the gift registry. When you mention gifts on the invitation, guests feel as if you expect them to buy a present in order to attend. That makes the party seem less like a celebration and more like a plea for cash and prizes. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have gift registry information handy when guests contact you with questions about what to buy.

Baby Shower Themes - How to Choose the Perfect One

The best way to make sure that you throw the perfect baby shower, is to start with the perfect baby shower theme. With the hundreds of baby shower themes out there though, how do you choose the right theme?

A baby shower theme sets the tone for the entire event. What is right will change from person to person, but there are things you can take into consideration to make sure you find the right theme.

First, consider the theme that the new parents will be using for the baby's nursery. Would this be a good baby shower theme? One of the most popular ways of choosing a theme is to do the shower in the same theme that the new parents are doing the baby's room in. There are a few advantages to using the theme of the baby's room. First, you know that the new mom likes it. Second, it will be gender appropriate for the baby, as mom and dad will be decorating based on what they know the baby's gender is, if they don't know, they will no doubt have picked a theme that they feel is appropriate for both a boy or girl.

If you are not going to go with the theme of the baby, then there are literally hundreds of themes to choose from. This biggest issue for most people at that point is figuring out how to narrow their choices down. There are some basic things you can take into consideration to help you decide.

First, consider the new mom's tastes. Does she like traditional baby shower things like baby animals, baby carriages, teddy bears or the like? Or, is she more trendy and looking for the hottest thing?

The baby's gender will also be a big consideration of course. Is baby a boy or a girl, or are mom and dad waiting to find out? Do you want a theme that is traditionally boy or traditionally girl? Or, would you prefer something gender neutral? Perhaps you'd prefer a theme that is generally thought of for the opposite gender, for instance cowboy baby showers have long been popular, but the cowgirl theme has become quite popular in recent years.

Would it be good to incorporate a religious theme into the shower, or would this be an area best avoided? For the right person, a Noah's Ark shower, angel shower, or miracle from heaven theme can be extra special.

Of course if mom is having twins, triplets, or more babies, then you will have additional themes available to you. Themes like Two Peas In A Pod and Noah's Ark are great ways to celebrate the special arrival of multiples.

Once you've thought about these things, you can easily narrow down the options and find the theme that will be just right for the new family.

Baby Shower Centerpieces That Double As a Gift!

Here you will learn how to make and where to purchase your baby shower centerpieces. As the centerpiece is the focal point of the baby shower, it is very important for you to design or purchase the right one.

You need to place them above eye level at the table to keep from blocking the view of the and the guest of honor from seeing each other at the table. There are many different types of centerpieces to choose from. One very popular type of centerpiece which doubles as your shower gift is a baby diaper cake.

Once you have picked your theme you need to keep it featured around that theme. If making your own baby shower centerpiece, many of the supplies needed will be available locally. However, going online will add to the variety of centerpieces you have to choose from.

Many centerpieces will be made with candles surrounding them. Such as floral centerpieces, using fresh or artificial flowers. Fresh flowers will be more economical if you choose flowers that are in season. When choosing artificial flowers, you can go with silk, chocolate flowers such as roses, plastic flowers, or light-up roses.

Use a wicker basket and fill it with baby items. You could put a cloth diaper, diaper pins, baby bottles, bibs, baby socks, pacifiers and other small baby items. Surround the basket with small candles or put a couple of helium balloons tied to the handle.
If using a beach theme, use a beach bucket and place a flower arrangement inside, with candles around the outside. Or put small tools for the beach inside the bucket.
Fill a small goldfish bowl with water and fill it with floating candles and flower buds. Or you might even add a goldfish to the water.
Use votive holders and candles that match your theme. They will provide a soft type of illumination to the event.
Go to a craft section or a craft store and purchase small pink and blue gemstones. You could place these in votive holders, or small glass vases of different sizes. Add shredded tissue to the mix and you will have another lovely baby shower centerpiece.
You could get different glass figurines of a stork, swan, castle, teddy bear, or whatever would fit with the theme. Put them in a box filled with colored shredded paper and put the figurine on top. Any of these would be a great addition to your baby shower.
Hang an umbrella from the ceiling filled with stuffed animals. Or you could put flowers inside and add balloons, dolls and/or ribbons.
Fill a bucket, bowl, or basket with candy, small stuffed animals, or flowers.
If the baby shower is in the fall or winter. Use small pumpkins, headstones, or leaves of different colors. Pumpkins could be made of tissue, or small figures of pumpkins.
Tropical Themes could use many different items to make your baby shower center piece. Pineapples, tiki lights, small palm trees, hula dancer center piece, or a flamingo.
Nautical themes could use small boats, ships, sailboats, anchors, or a treasure chest.
Spring themes could include items such as hearts, leprechauns, or bunnies.
Western themes could use straw, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, western badges and rope.

These are just some ideas to choose from. Think about them, mix and match, or add your own ideas to make centerpieces that perfectly match your theme. You and your guests and guest of honor will have a fun day. They will be getting away from reality for a short time to rest and enjoy themselves.

Easy Baby Shower Favors You Can Make

If you want to keep down costs at your baby shower, you might want to consider making your own simple, but appealing baby shower favors. With a little bit of imagination and creativity, you could make pretty baby shower favors that your guests will love, and that don't cost the earth. Call some of your friends to help you make handmade personalized favors and you're all set.

The tips below are so easy to make you can have a hundred favors ready in just a few hours.

Take small sized plastic bottles, and use these to fill with luxurious treats for guests. Colored and scented bath salts are a great idea. Choose from fragrances that include Jojoba, almond oil and aloe Vera. Or buy a large container of sweet scented hand lotion, and fill each bottle. Tie the top with a pink or blue ribbon, or use a lace ribbon to tie a bow. A satin ribbon wrapped elegantly around works just as well.

Give your guests diaper baby gift basket favors to take home. Take a new born sized diaper, and line the inside with tissue. Now fill with treats and candies and mints. Use a drawstring to draw close tight, and attach a little tag thanking your guest for attending the shower. Your guests will find the idea behind the diaper baby gift basket ingenious.

For a variation of the diaper theme, take small new born baby booties (you'll find these at online stores that sell baby gifts) and fill each with treats. Use the string to draw shut, and place in a large basket at the entrance, so people can pick a booty as they come in.

Buy empty glass jars in bulk, and fill with bubble bath, bath salts, body or hand lotion, or shower gel. The bottles are very inexpensive, and the goodies inside will please the most jaded guest. Remember to add a festive touch to the jar by wrapping a red satin bow around the top.

Buy little mugs at discount stores or order them online. Place a single flower in each, and place all of them at a table near the entrance. As guests leave, they can pick up a single cup with a bloom.

Seed packets make great baby shower favors. Look for seed packet favors at online stores and present guests for a baby shower favor that will grow to spread its fragrance around year after year!

How to Control Your 3-Year-Old's Aggressive Behavior

Are you experiencing aggressive behavior in your 3-year-old? Is your 3-year-old calling all the shots? Do you feel exhausted and just don't know what else to do? If your answer is yes, and I bet it is... As you continue reading this article, you will learn how to end the power struggles, the aggressiveness and gain back control over your child behavior.

Majority of children are not able recognize their own strength or even the full consequences of their actions; and in a world where they are often being told what to do, where to go and how to behave, it does not seem all that unreasonable that they may sometimes need to speak out and be heard.

-As you may already know, controlling feelings and emotions is a learned skill and can be very difficult to master in some adults, let alone children. For whatever reason your 3 yr old throw the outburst, one thing to always keep in mind is to not interact with power and anger of any sort or you will end up with a child that is very defensive and will fight whatever you ask him not to do.

-The good news is there are better ways to deal with this kind of aggressiveness that can create a win-win situation for both of you using proper child management methods. Nagging or punishing children for acting aggressively can make it more likely that they will act that way in the future. Imagine, if you will, a 3 yr old quietly piecing a puzzle together or even playing a video game. She/he has almost completed the puzzle/game but cannot get the final pieces/play to come together.

-Throughout this quiet half an hour the parent has been around but has said absolutely nothing. Nothing, that is until the child becomes obviously frustrated and throws the puzzle/game across the room and begins screaming or swearing loudly. At this point the parent intervenes by reprimanding the child and sending him/her to their room. You know where I am going with this right?

-It would appear that the parent has done everything appropriate in this situation, except for the fact that the only attention this child received during the time period was negative. If this is commonly the case, the child may begin to feel that any attention is better than no attention and as a result may continue to act out disruptively in daily activities.

-When dealing with aggressive children, it is worth the effort to praise even the smallest attempt at proper behavior, while paying very little if any attention to negative conduct. Praise can be a very strong motivator.

Encouraging Children's Language Development

Parents and carers can use a range of strategies to encourage children's language development. We thought of the following:

Talking to the child - even before a child can speak it is important for the adults and children around him to talk to him, for instance, by explaining what you are doing together ('It's time for Adam's lunch, isn't it?'), or what is happening ('It's lovely and sunny out here', 'Mummy will be here soon'). Remember to leave pauses so the child has chance to respond.

Using facial expression to convey meaning - children may not understand the words but they will usually understand the meaning if clear expression is used. For instance, if a child picks up a piece of soil in the garden and is about to eat it you might take it off him saying 'yuck' or 'nasty'. He may not know what 'yuck' or 'nasty' mean. If, at the same time, you also scrunch up your face and stick out your tongue to indicate a horrible taste, the child will understand your meaning quite clearly. Most adults do this quite naturally when speaking to young children.

Reading and story-telling.

Social interaction. Including the child in experiences that give him the opportunity to hear conversations and meet new people.

Language and Other Areas of Development

The child's ability to communicate and use language effectively is of key importance to many other areas of their development.

Language has particularly close links with intellectual development and is the main tool by which we are able to develop our thought processes. For example, we use words to help us store and recall memories and other information.

Think about the word 'sunshine' - what memories and thoughts does this bring up for you?

Everyone's memories and thoughts will be a little bit different. When we asked a group of students this question, their answers included:

warmth

light

my holiday in Cyprus

summer

a t-shirt I have with a sun motif

flowers.

This is a good example of the way in which words act as tools to help us organise and recall our thoughts and memories.

We also tend to use words mentally to direct and plan our actions, for example: "I'll drop these off at the library first and then call into the supermarket."

It follows that children whose communication skills are impaired in some way, or who have limited vocabularies, may also find it more difficult to develop reasoning skills and acquire new concepts.

Communication skills are essential if children are to express themselves clearly and understand others. It follows that there are close links between language and communication skills and the development of social skills. Poor communicators tend to find social situations difficult, and also find it more difficult to build relationships with other people.

Becoming a Communicator

Effective use of language involves far more than simply learning words - the child also needs to learn a whole range of skills around speech and communication, such as understanding how a conversation works. These are known as pragmatic skills.

Pragmatic skills begin to develop in the early weeks of life, with tiny babies 'turn taking', initiating communicative interchanges, and 'talking' non-verbally to their carers.

Pragmatic skills include:

knowing that you have to answer when a question has been asked;

being able to participate in a conversation by taking it in turns with the other speaker;

the ability to notice and respond to the non-verbal aspects of language;

awareness that you have to introduce a topic of conversation in order for the listener to fully understand;

knowing which words or what sort of sentence-type to use when initiating a conversation or responding to something someone has said;

the ability to maintain a topic;

the ability to maintain appropriate eye-contact (not too much staring, and not too much looking away) during a conversation;

the ability to distinguish how to talk and behave towards different people and in different situations.

Many everyday activities can be used to encourage children's language development, for example during mealtimes or group work. Parents and carers should look for opportunities to help children develop their language. This would include opportunities to:

use questions

listen

learn new vocabulary

speak.

Handling Mistakes

Young children make many mistakes in their speech. They often use grammar incorrectly and they may mispronounce words because they have difficulty in making the correct sounds. They substitute the difficult sound for an easier one, for instance 'th' for 's', as in 'yeth' for 'yes'. Such difficulties usually resolve themselves by 5 or 6 years of age.

It is very important to tackle such errors in a positive way if you are to boost the child's confidence. Avoid direct correction of errors. Show the child that you have understood what he is trying to tell you and also teach him how to say the word correctly. For example:

Child: 'mook.'

It is better to respond with 'Yes! Book, book.' than 'No, not mook, book.'

With older children too, it often helps to echo back mistakes correctly. They get the message but they do not feel criticised. This can be the key to good communication between the two of you.

Child: 'I have to do vis homework for tomorrow.'

Adult: 'You have to do this for tomorrow? OK.'

Some children are so keen to get the words out, or have so much to say, that they stumble over their words. Parents may worry that the child is beginning to develop a stutter but this is just a temporary stage that many children go through. It is not a true stutter. It is only likely to become a problem if parents or carers make a fuss and try to correct the child's speech. The child then becomes self-conscious and a real stutter may develop, at which stage the help of a speech therapist may be required.

Delayed Language Development

Children may be slow in learning to talk for several reasons, including:

genetics - it may be that the child's parents were late talkers too.

he or she may have been concentrating on other aspects of development, such as learning to walk.

not enough individual attention from adults - children learn to talk from adults rather than children.
This can be a problem in large families or where there are twins or young children who are very close in age.

lack of encouragement.

deafness - A child cannot learn to speak if he or she cannot hear the words spoken by other people. They also needs to able to hear themselves so that they can improve their own attempts at words. Interestingly, during the first year, profoundly deaf babies often babble at the same time as other babies, but they stop after a few months. This may be because they cannot hear themselves and so can't reinforce their babbling.

It is extremely important to recognise deafness in children at an early age, as the earlier the child receives treatment the better the outcome. Parents and carers are ideally placed to notice that something is wrong with a child's hearing. Such problems are also often picked up at the routine developmental checks carried out by health visitors during the first year or so.

Combating Attention Deficit Disorder In Teens

Attention Deficit Disorder - a condition that is manifested in inattentiveness, hyperactivity, or a combination of both - is most often identified in young children. Treatment begins and tools are put in place to help the child learn coping strategies to deal with everyday situations. But with Attention Deficit Disorder in teens there are a whole new set of challenges to hurdle.

At an age where fitting in with the crowd is of paramount concern, any differences in behavior can be exacerbated in this heightened social microcosm. The symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder can make the learning environment difficult. The increased schoolwork associated with this age group often catapults the Attention Deficit Disorder in teens to a new level. And often when grades suffer, so does the self-esteem of the teen in question.

Additionally, at this time when social concerns are of enormous importance, Attention Deficit Disorder in teens can make typical teenaged relationships difficult to navigate. Teens who suffer from this condition can often feel isolated as the burden of their symptoms puts a wedge between them and their peers.

Attention Deficit Disorder in teens that has been diagnosed prior to these years can benefit greatly from treatment already in existence. Teens that have battled with Attention Deficit Disorder since early childhood will have a better handle on how to challenge the effects of the disorder in their teens.

But for some Attention Deficit Disorder in teens the diagnosis comes at this late date. The increased pressure of high school workload and social concerns sometimes sheds a light on a condition that was previously unnoticed or non-symptomatic. Because of its strong connection to learning disorders, Attention Deficit Disorder in teens should be closely monitored for co-existing conditions.

Attention Deficit Disorder in teens can be successfully managed if you are proactive. For those who have been diagnosed in childhood, the arrival into the teens may exacerbate symptoms and require changes in medication.

If you're just now suspecting a problem, have your child evaluated by a medical professional who specializes in Attention Deficit Disorder in teens. Staying armed with knowledge and having a willingness to go on the offense will put you in control of Attention Deficit Disorder instead of the other way around.

What Makes Chanel Products So Desirable?

The name of Chanel, and its logo of an overlapping double-C, one facing forwards the other facing backwards, is recognizable worldwide. The name has become synonymous with quality and style. They say that 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' and, if that is true, then Chanel is one of the most admired brands around the globe. Unfortunately, this means that the brand has been subject to numerous, cheaper and lower quality, fakes. The company is constantly battling to have these inferior goods destroyed and the manufacturers prosecuted. Unfortunately, many third-world countries to do not offer the same trademark protection as America or Europe and it is almost impossible to stop them being made and sold.

So what is it that makes Chanel one of the most desirable brands of womens' fashions and accessories? Undoubtedly, this stems back to Coco Chanel's visionary and revolutionary fashions. She introduced women to freedom of choice and comfortable clothing, being the first to use jersey as her chosen fabric. The restrictive corsets of the 19th Century would now become a thing of the past. Casual elegance was her trademark, and her comfortable suits and 'little black dress' became, and still are, the must-haves for modern women. Her twin sets with cardigans and jersey tops are still classic items for any wardrobe. Her style is truly timeless.

Coco herself had a huge influence on the fashions of her time because she wore 'manly' styles. These included trousers and comfortable tops. These still had a feminine edge to them but were far less fussy than the womens' dresses of the time. She liberated women and enabled them to wear clothes that they felt truly comfortable wearing, without losing any of their elegance.

It is no coincidence that many of the world's top models and actresses have been associated with the Chanel name. Nicole Kidman being one of the most recent to have signed up to advertise the Chanel Number 5 perfume which still remains one of the bestselling scents globally. This all adds to the glamor and desire of the name, Chanel. Women around the world aspire to own a Chanel suit or carry a handbag bearing the ever-recognizable double-C logo.

Millions of people across the globe view Chanel fashion products, accessories, and clothes to be the epitome of desirability. That's no accident, either! After all, it's taken the Chanel brand 100 years to get where it is today!

The History of New Home Sewing Machines

A New Home sewing machine that you can find in the market these days could have been manufactured a long time ago and may be considered as a collector's item or a mechanical sewing equipment such as one of the modern models.

In any case, be assured that the New Home sewing machines still work wonders for any sewer.

The start of New Home company began around 1860 when major manufacturers of sewing machines started to battle each other out in pursuit of obtaining lead in the market and securing patents.

That's when Thomas White came up with what could be the first New Home sewing machine, which he called the New England. Soon his business expanded, despite the many downs that he had to face then, and survived until this day.

Over the years there are already several New Home models that have been released and sold to the public.

There is the model no. 914, which was one of the first New Home sewing machines that were manufactured. It still had a treadle, a hand crank, and a wheel. You needed to step on the pedal and turn the crank for the machine to work and start creating some stitches.

The body, though made of solid metal frame, was elegantly finished. It also came with a cabinet, where you could store the no. 914 model once you were done using it. There was a drawer where you can place a number of much-needed accessories such as threads, bobbins, and scissors, to name a few.

Then there was the model 915, which was basically following model 914. There wasn't any difference between the two, except that the former had a cover, which could protect the sewing machine itself from dust and from constant movement. Perhaps one of the first half-case sewing machines was the no. 4 New Home sewing machine.

It was still ornamented, but the body was primarily made of nickel. There were also a number of included attachments and which you could make use immediately.

Newer types of sewing machines from New Home include the 104D, which is actually a mechanical model. It has an additional feature, which is a carry handle so you can conveniently bring this with you anywhere you go.

There are also twin needles that you can find included in the sewing machine, so you can sew two colors at the same time. Moreover, there are feed dogs, which will then help you the creation of stitches so they don't end up puckering or stretching the fabric. Meanwhile, another mechanical model is the L-373. There are 13 built-in stitches, as well as a buttonhole feature.

Having a New Home sewing machine means that you have a very solid machine which may not be as technological or as advanced as other sewing machines, but it can last for a very long time. They do make perfect collectibles, or as heirlooms to your children and even to your grandchildren.

Ikon Multi-speed Juice Fountain BJE510XL at an msrp of $199.00
Die-cast Juice Fountain Elite 800JEXL at an msrp of $299.00
Dual Disc Juice Processor BJE820XL at an msrp of $399.00
The Juice and Blend BJB840XL at an msrp of $499.00
Die Cast Citrus Press 800CPXL at an msrp of $189.00

All of these seven models are manufactured by the same company, Breville, an Australian manufacturer that has been in business since 1932. They are all quite similar except for the last one in the list, the die cast citrus press. We'll cover that one real quick, since it is so different than the others.

The citrus press juicer is a hand powered press style juicer that juices only citrus; grapefruits, oranges, lemons, etc. It is made of die cast metal to hold up against the acidity of many citrus fruits. It also features a power assisted press, which makes it easier to extract the citrus juice, less muscle needed! The big detraction on numerous consumer juicer reviews is that there is a plastic part under the press that wears out under heavy use.

All right, now let's cover the other six juicer reviews in this line. The first four in the list, the compact, the plus, the ikon and the elite are all home grade juicers. They are the models that most people will choose to purchase for home juicing.

They are all centrifugal style juicers (vs. masticating, twin gear, single gear, and auger styles). What this means in plain english is that they will juice fast (much faster than the other styles of juicers) but will also heat the juice more than those other types typically do. This is a concern only if you are very particular about your juice heat and enzyme retention. The more fresh juice is heated, the more it loses valuable health promoting enzymes. If this is a concern for you, consider another style of juicer from another manufacturer altogether.

The compact has a 750 watt motor, the plus an 850 watt motor, the ikon a 900 watt motor and the elite has a 1,000 watt motor. For industry standards with centrifugal style juicers, these are good. With centrifugal types, the higher the motor wattage the better.

The first two in the line, the compact and the plus, have a plastic housing in a silver satin finish that mimics stainless steel. The ikon makes the upgrade to stainless steel and the elite to die cast metal. All of the Breville juicers reviewed have a very attractive appearance, however that silver finish on the bottom two models will wear with age.

Other differences are the speed controls. The compact is a one speed juicer. The plus steps it up to 2 speeds, the ikon has a whopping 5 speeds, the elite has 2 speeds.

So between these four, which is the best juicer reviewed? The compact is a great buy for the casual juicer at a low $99. The plus at $149 is a pass due to consumer reports of motor burn-outs. The upgrade to the $199 ikon makes more sense. The elite at $299 and titanium cutting blades is heading into heavy duty juicer territory. It is for users who plan on doing extensive juicing. For most families the compact or the ikon will be perfect.

Now what about those other two juicers? The dual disc juice processor and the juice & blend are both juicer/blender combos. At $399 the dual disc features a durable die cast body, a 1200 watt motor, 5 speed juicing and titanium cutting discs. Just unveiled August 2010 is the $499 juice & blend. It differs from the dual disc in that there are two separate top mounts that can be attached to the motor base. One is a juicer and one is a blender. They are basically two separate machines that share a motor base. The juice and blend also features 5 speed settings and titanium cutting discs. These two are for serious juicing and smoothie making fans, or cooks who want the creme de la creme of appliances in their kitchen!

How Do I Thank the Godparents?

Traditionally after sponsoring a godchild's christening or baptism, the godparents received a small thank you note from the parent's of the godchild. Nowadays, parents are giving the godparents a little more. Often it is a more personal gift that shows the godparents how much they are appreciated for the role they will play in the godchild's life.

Godparents are an important part of a child's Christian upbringing and therefore, much thought goes into the decision of who the Godparents will be. Questions such as, what is the faith background of the prospective godparents, and will the prospective godparents be around throughout the child's life, play a large role in the decision making process. Often the child's parents will pick, or may be required to pick, godparents of the same religion, depending on personal preference or on the rules of the church where the child will be baptized.

Godparents are expected to be a part of the child's religious upbringing throughout the child's lifetime. Often you will see godparents as sponsors for the child's First Communion or Confirmation. But most importantly, godparents are expected to ensure the child continues that religious upbringing if the parents should pass away. Obviously there is much responsibility on the part of the godparent and the child's parents may feel the need show their appreciation by bestowing a special gift.

One of my favorite godparent gifts is the Engraved Godparent Wood Picture Frame which holds a 10" x 8" photo and can be engraved with the names of the child and the Godparent(s). Another great idea is a Godparent Cross, and if all else fails, you may want to select a cross that goes with the decor of the godparents' home. Whatever the gift, always remember to include a personal thank you note with it.

Routine sewing machine tasks have been automated with push button controls like the six buttons that access the most utility stitches, automatic stitch tie off, reverse button, programmable needle up/down control, and an electronic twin needle control button.

Several technology improvements also offer effortless fabric and stitch control such as the use of a horizontal thread delivery system, optimum power control that reallocates power to the needle arm when working through a thick seam, and a direct drive system which provides more direct power to the needle arm. The Singer exclusive Buttonhole Underplate applies additional pressure to layers of fabrics for even, consistent buttonholes.

More advanced sewers will appreciate the available 13 needle positions, adjustable top thread tension controls, and the drop feed dog lever.

Both free-arm sewing and twin needle sewing are possible on the Curvy 8770. The bobbin cover is see-through so you know when you're running out of thread. There is a built-in carry handle at the top of the machine, 3 built in LED work lights, and a built-in manual thread cutter. The instruction guide is incredibly thorough.

Singer Curvy 8770 Accessories
Included sewing accessories can be stored inside the extension arm cubby and the sewing machine comes with a dust cover as well as extra needles, extra bobbins, an auxiliary spool pin, felt discs, spool caps and a combination buttonhole opener and seam ripper.

The Singer Curvy 8770 sewing machine operates quietly and efficiently. The six point feed dog system uses the box rotation method for reliable fabric control. The control panel, although computerized, is extremely user friendly and very easy to learn.

Newborn Baby Care - How to Take Care of Newborn Baby

Giving birth to a child is sometimes really amazing and it is safe when the baby is in its mother's womb. From the instant the baby emerges from the cocoon, you need to pay special attention and there is plenty of it in newborn baby care about "how to take care of newborn baby". Know well what will be the newborn baby needs, except for the love that you offer. You need a good knowledge in taking care of the baby connected with food, sleep and skin. It's sometimes excruciating that you can't handle it to your wishes since the skin, eyes, bottom and other features are so delicate. There are some common problems with skin conditions like baby gerbils, baby acne, cradle caps and heat rash with sunburn common with newborns of any country.

Baby skin care: Skin care is the foremost factor in spite of its adaptability to the new environment. Skin is so red that it offers irritation and infection to every touch. So, it's best to wash cloths with special detergents. Baby skin loses moisture quickly and it needs time to absorb and retain moisture to its need. So, keeping your child with cold or warm perfume baths daily is not suggestive but may be on alternative days suiting other conditions. New born baby care is so gentle that it needs special treatment. It's best for protecting the baby from bacterial infection by using homemade baby wipes and diaper to cleaning your little ones.

Umbilical cord: Until and after the falling down, the area around the umbilical cord should be kept clean with hygienic soft cotton with alcohol application.

Head care: Head is so delicate with soft hair. To keep clean use only baby skin care natural shampoo perhaps the same product. The pulpy scalp is a protected area against rough handling when padding anything around it.

Heat rash and sunburn: Skin learns to accommodate with new surrounding and so nothing is there to worry. Whatsoever, keeping off the baby from direct sunlight for a long time should be avoided as a measure of infant care against heat effects. Protecting the baby appropriately perhaps with cheap baby clothing suiting to the weather is wise of the mother.

Baby acne and cradle caps: Baby acne may have its effect for the first two or three months but no need to treat unless infected. It is protected with homely and regular baby baths with natural care therapy. Cradle caps should be handled with soft brush to clean using some herbal moisturizer. It's best to use natural baby products avoiding synthetic products like talcum powder complimented by organic skin care treatments to avoid dry skin.

Newborn baby care is not so easy to all. It is a skill with the parents especially the mother to know how to take care of newborn baby.

It is actually quite common for a baby to laugh, cry, giggle, talk, babble, mumble, scream, etc. in their sleep. There are a variety of reasons why you have a baby crying in sleep. To understand the reasons, it is important to know a bit about the way a baby functions at a physiological level. Since birth, a baby is in a constant state of growth. Also, it is a fact that the younger a child is, the faster the rate is at which they grow. With all of the various changes and growing occurring in a baby's body, it is completely normal to have a baby that is crying in sleep.

Soy Milk May Be Tied To Infant Deaths

Although the autopsy is inconclusive and tests on the food are not yet complete, a porridge made of EdenSoy Extra soy milk and cornmeal may be responsible for the deaths of two infant brothers living in Brooklyn.

When their mother attempted to wake them, shortly after noon, she found they were unconscious and took them to the hospital. Both were pronounced dead on arrival.

Initial thoughts were that the twins had been overcome by a gas leak, but tests showed no leak.

Because medical examiners also found no evidence of choking as a result of consuming the food, or any signs of foul play, the police instead began focusing on what the infants had eaten. The police cleaned out two nearby supermarkets of EdenSoy milk and cornmeal for testing.

New York Times October 21, 2005 Registration RequiredNYNewsDay.com October 22, 2005

Dr. Mercola's Comment: If you ever wondered why I'm so concerned about the health dangers tied to the rampant use of soy products -- especially in processed foods -- this kind of incident is exactly the reason. In my view there just simply isn't any justification to ever use soy formula or worse, soy milk, in infants.

This isn't the first time soy milk has been investigated for its toxic side effects. Separate incidents in California and Arkansas prompted the FDA to issue a 1990 warning against using soy milk as a formula substitute. Most brands have followed the tougher FDA labeling guidelines, except EdenSoy, says Dr. Kaayla T. Daniel, author of The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food.

In fact, the deaths of three infants prompted the Israeli Health Ministry to issue a health advisory earlier this year, recommending babies not be fed soy formula -- except as a last resort -- and severely limiting a child's intake of soy products.

Without question the best food you can give your infant is breast milk and this should be your primary choice if at all possible, as it is the healthiest source of milk you can give to your infant. I believe very strongly all soy formula should be avoided andis not fit for human consumption.

If breastfeeding is not an option, the best article I ever read on the topicis one published in a recent edition of the Weston Price ogranization. I am on their board and was able to obtain reprint rightsfor their article onhealthy alternatives to breast milk and commercial formula from Sally Fallon to run it in our newsletter. I would strongly encourage you to review thismulti-part series in this issueif you are unable to breastfeed.

When making the alterntaive to breast milk described in the article, ideally, it would be best to use raw milk as the base (other ingredients to add are described in the article). The best way toget it is tofind a local dairy farmer in your areathrough your local health food store orthe Real Milk Web site. Raw milk is a safer and farhealthier alternative to pasteurized milk.

Homemade Baby Slings - How to Make Your Own Baby Sling!

As many hip parents know, baby slings have become an increasingly popular mode of transporting your infant or toddler around - from A-list celebrities spotted wearing a designer Baby Bjorn with baby in tow, to everyday moms and dads on the go who choose to use a variety of baby slings and carriers, the baby carrier is the way to carry your little one in style!

Saving Green...

With today's ever-tightening economy, some parents are choosing to get crafty - and get sewing! While there are many gifted homemakers who enjoy making their own baby clothes, others are merely looking to save a penny or two and design their own easy-to-sew or no-sew baby wrap.

Going Green...

There are also environmentally-conscious parents who would prefer to start their child's life on a green note - and organic baby slings are easily made, using natural fibers and textiles (such as hemp and unbleached cotton) as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic materials used in traditional baby carriers.

Making a Scene!

Still others choose to express their creative side - crocheting, knitting and hand-stitching hip baby slings to suit their own personal style, crafty folks everywhere can consult a multitude of craft magazines and websites for how-to's and blogs when creating their own original baby sling designs.

Ready, Set...Sew!

So, whether you're on a budget, looking to express your artistic or creative side, or simply trying to live a greener lifestyle, it's easy to make your own cheap baby slings - below, DIY instructions to sew your own baby wrap!

HOW TO MAKE BABY SLINGS:

For anyone who has basic sewing skills, this is a fairly simple project:

1. First, choose your fabric at a local fabric store - since you will be sewing (or serging) the edges, you may choose woven cloth that is unfinished, as well as fleeces and cotton knits, as long as they don't curl up when cut.

2. Next, cut your cloth to the proper dimension - if you're purchasing your fabric in person, the salesperson can cut the cloth to your specifications; we recommend 20 to 35" wide and at least 5 yards (15 feet) long.

3. Finally, you will finish the edges by serging all four sides of the material.

If you do not have your own serger, we recommend hemming all the way around the four sides of the baby wrap. You may also choose to visit your local sewing machine store, which might let you borrow their serger for free or for a small fee; visiting a tailor or dry cleaners is another affordable option for finishing your baby wrap.

IMPORTANT TIP: DO NOT buy 2.5 yards of 2 different materials & sew them together to create 5 yards - this will result in a WEIGHT-BEARING seam, weakening your baby wrap & making it less safe!

Although this is a moderately easy sling project for some, sewing isn't quite an option for everyone, especially when you consider what you're transporting! For the rest of us less-than-crafty folks who want to carry their precious cargo stylishly (and safely!), it's not difficult to find inexpensive and cheap baby slings. There are many online sources, including Babysling.com, where you can find a great assortment of affordable baby slings & infant slings, including the ERGO baby carrier, Hotslings brand, Moby Wrap, Maya, Ellaroo, Baby K'Tan baby carrier and more! Whether you're looking for a baby backpack, a linen baby sling, a Velcro sling, organic slings or any other type of kid sling, you're sure to find a wonderful selection of moderately-priced, eco-friendly and stylish options at Babysling.com!

The Pros and Cons of In-Vitro Fertilization

What is In-Vitro Fertilization?

In-vitro fertilization is a procedure that allows couples who cannot conceive normally to have a child. The woman's egg and man's sperm are taken out of the body and fertilized in a laboratory, then put back into a woman who can carry the pregnancy to term.

Many moral and ethical concerns have been raised because of in-vitro fertilization. Those against the procedure say it is too much like playing God. Many women, however, have successfully delivered healthy babies as a result of in-vitro fertilization. Only you can decide if this procedure is the right one for you.

What are the Chances of Success with In-Vitro Fertilization?

"The chance of successful pregnancy with in vitro fertilization is directly related to the age of the woman who provides the egg. Most in vitro fertilization programs divide up their success rates according to age. For example, clinics will report pregnancy rates for women under and over the age of 35 years. There is certainly deterioration in the quality of eggs from the mid-thirties onwards. Some clinics divide up success rates further, and specifically report pregnancy rates for women between the ages of 35 and 37, 38 and 39, 39 to 42, and then over the age of 42.:
- Victoriafertility web site, August 2006

In-vitro has enjoyed a good success rate. Some in-vitro procedures have been too effective, with women giving birth to twins, triplets, or even more babies at once. It's a good idea to try the process with three or fewer eggs, on the chance that all the eggs will become successfully fertilized and produce children. In-vitro is a viable option for women who cannot naturally conceive.

What are the Dangers of In-Vitro Fertilization?

"One of the commonest serious side effects from using fertility drugs is a condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome becomes a risk in women who develop more than 20 follicles in response to the fertility drugs. In these circumstances the blood estrogen levels are often very high, and this combination causes OHSS."
- Victoriafertility web site, August 2006

The most common danger of in-vitro is that it will not work. It is very disappointing and depressing for a couple who has tried many methods, only to fail again at in-vitro. There is nothing to suggest that in-vitro fertilization will make natural conception easier or harder for the woman in the future. Medically, the procedure is fairly safe. There is some pain associated with the process of removing the woman's eggs, however, and there is a surgical procedure involved.

If you are considering in-vitro fertilization, it's best to discuss your options with your doctor. In-vitro can be a rather invasive procedure. You'll want to know what your chances are of having a successful pregnancy using this method before you decide to go ahead with in-vitro.

The Pros and Cons of In-Vitro Fertilization

Each woman has to make the decision regarding in-vitro for herself, with the support of her spouse. Many couples face reproductive challenges, and it's a very common problem that is nothing to be ashamed of. Learn all about your own chances of success with in-vitro before you decide to go through with the procedure, which can be very costly and very invasive to a woman's body. How much you want to conceive will determine whether or not in-vitro fertilization is right for you.

Baby Poems For Saying What's on Your Heart

Baby poems and baby shower poems can express any sentiment. Whether sweet, funny, or loving, poems are an ideal way to say what's on your heart. And if you need some help with what to say, online you can find everything you're looking for having to do with poems and baby shower poems.

Anyone can write a baby poem, and everyone enjoys reading them, young and old. Poems are wonderful to include on baby shower invitations or birth announcements. Baby shower poems can have rhythm and rhyme, but they certainly don't have to.

Poems can be either long or short, but short is probably best for your typical baby shower needs. Poems can be sentimental, sappy or sweet. Poems can be original and creative or standard and more traditional. Don't hesitate to add a little humor as well!

Either way, all baby shower poems are appropriate for welcoming the newborn and honoring the birth mother or mother to be.

The people who are most often touched by poems are those who have had children themselves. Sweet poems can remind them of the time when their little ones were still young.

No one will appreciate them more than the family members themselves. If you are a creative writer or have a special talent for putting words together in a special way, then you should try writing your own baby shower poems. This would make a great gift idea as well.

If you really like the poem you've written, it can be framed and displayed as a wonderful memento or keepsake. Years later when the baby has grown, think of how special they will feel knowing the words that were written were just for them.

Sample Poems

Baby Shower:

Special people all around
Love and happiness abound
Babies, presents, cake, flower
Thank you for the baby shower

Thanks for all the work you've done
To welcome our new precious son

Baby Poem:
Teeny, tiny little toes
Small and round little nose
A precious gift from heaven above
My sweet baby that I love

We've longed to see you face to face
And we've prepared a special place
Just for you, our baby

If you are not the creative type - don't worry! There are lots of places that you can look online for poems to say just the thing you want to say.

Poems have been written on all subjects throughout the ages, and baby poems and baby shower poems are no exception. A quick search online doesn't have to take any time at all.

But if you decide to write your own baby poems, even common things can inspire you. Inspiration can be found anywhere. Look to your own memories from the past. What was special about your childhood?

What special object have you treasured over the years? What words of wisdom or advice could you pass on to the next generation? Look around the house and imagine a baby being there. What do you see, hear, or feel?

Let those thoughts be the source of your best baby poems. You do not have to write like Shakespeare, you just have to be sincere.

There are also poems for saying thank you to the guests for coming to the shower, and thanking them for the gifts they may have given.

Common baby poem themes are often safety, peace, love and happiness. When a baby is born, it is a time to reflect on the meaning of life and what is really important in life. Whether you are religious or not, baby poems can be written as simple prayers or encouragement.

Who hasn't heard the famous lines - "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep"? Baby poems have been the source of many needlepoint crafts and have been given as cherished baby gifts and will continue to be for years to come. Why not add baby shower poems or baby poems to your next newborn celebration?

When To Start Teaching Your Baby (1)

When is it that I should start teaching my baby? That is a question that may come to mind for many first time parents; other parents may never consider the question at all, and just leave things to evolve naturally.

In a way, that is an unnecessary question as, whether you like it or not and whether you mean to or not, you begin teaching your baby while it is still in the womb, and then continue through its early years, teenage years, and even into adulthood. So, perhaps it is better to rephrase that question slightly to "when should I consciously start teaching my baby?"

Even with the rephrased question, the answer is the same: while the baby is in the womb. How can that be?

While the baby is in the womb it starts to learn about its environment after about six months of pregnancy, when it is capable of hearing external sounds. Of course, it is aware of its internal environment earlier than that, but there is little you can do to enhance that. But when it comes to the external environment, you are in a position to have some influence even from that early stage of development.

What Can You Teach Your Baby In The Womb?

With the baby in the womb there is clearly a very limited scope for teaching as such. However, you can provide additional stimulation that will form an important part of their learning at that stage. You can provide many hints as to what the outside environment is like, in a way that sets a good foundation for their feeling of love and security.

The main external awareness of a baby in the womb is sound. If you can make the external sounds comforting and welcoming then that will help the baby more than you may think. Music is a proven stimulation to babies, especially classical music; a daily dose of Mozart will stimulate the baby's brain and senses. With any luck, they will become a musical talent, but that is not an issue at this stage of their development.

You do not, of course, have to restrict her to classical music. Whatever music you like, just turn the volume up a bit more than usual to ensure she hears it. The sound will be muffled, but by the time baby is born, she will be used to your musical tastes.
Your aim should be to make the outside environment familiar to the baby. Most of that will happen naturally, and she will become used to the daily sounds, such as vacuum cleaner, liquidizer, lawnmower and other domestic noises that are penetrating.

Our baby daughter was born in the Philippines, where our usual form of transport is a tricycle. I do not think it a coincidence that, once she was born, she was contented with the noise of a tricycle; and they are noisy here, I assure you, especially outside the womb! However noisy the tricycle, she would always be asleep within a minute or two, and even now at 20 months is particularly relaxed on a deafening tricycle.

If you want to insist on having a most important sound in the womb, then it must be the voices of the parents. Getting to know the voice of mum and dad will come naturally, but dad especially can get up close and talk to the baby in the womb. It will not talk back of course, but you can rest assured, if she is awake, she will be intrigued by your up close and personal voice. It is something I did every evening with Saffron. That also had the effect of keeping her awake as long as possible during the evening, so she was less restless at night. That can be very helpful for mum to get a good night's sleep.

Another external stimulation which I never learnt about for my now grown up children, and that is light. This can be even more useful for keeping baby awake in the evening. If you take a powerful flashlight, switch it on, and hold it close to mum's tummy, the baby in the womb will respond to it. I must say I thought it a silly idea, until the then unborn Saffron started moving every time the light was switched on. So, the flashlight became another tool in the "keep baby awake in the evening" campaign to stop mum being kicked so much during the night.

Maybe Saffron did not appreciate my "keep her awake" tactics. She was probably wondering "who is this guy keeping me awake all the time; doesn't he realise I want to get some sleep?"

However, she does seem to have done well on it. She has slept like a log all night, every night apart from one, since she was just a few months' old. The odd night? Apparently, a bad dream at 11 pm. A quick cuddle and words of reassurance, and she was back to sleep again.

Whether that has any connection to her in-the-womb experiences, I cannot say for sure. But I will definitely be using the same tactics again next time, if we are blessed with a baby sister or brother for her.

Top 5 Double Strollers 2010 - The Best Sellers

For those parents who have two small children, the top 5 double strollers list might not just be considered a good starting resource list, but any one of them might even be considered a "lifesaver" that adds some much needed convenience to parents lives.

For the year of 2010, here are the hottest selling double strollers that also have at least above average consumer reviews:

1. Baby Jogger City Mini Double - This stroller comes from a name that is consistent with amazing quality and a sort of "intuitiveness" into what parents really need. Not only is it quite comfortable for little ones, but it is rather light as well (especially for a double stroller). It is a side-by-side model, so two little ones can benefit from the view. Retail price for this stroller is around $400, and it may be possible to purchase it online for less although it is best if a shopper plans to pay the list price.

2. Jeep Wrangler Twin Double - This stroller lies in a lower price range than the City Mini, and is a good choice for parents who live in an area where the temperatures change a good deal with the seasons. It features a roll down attachment on the seat that can be used to block the wind in colder climates, and when rolled up it functions as a pillow for little ones. This stroller is also a side-by-side model. Retail price for the Jeep Wrangler Twin is around $140-$160 depending on the exact model chosen, and most definitely can be found for a discount price online.

3. Graco Quattro Tour Duo - This model of stroller is a tandem (one child in front of the other), and is known for its excellent suspension for a smooth ride, as well easy fold-up and ability to maneuver well. Retail price for the Quattro Tour Duo is around $250, but I have recently found them to be priced as low as around $217 from specific online merchants.

4. Kolcraft Contours Options Double - This stroller is rather amazing in terms of its seat maneuverability - children can even sit facing each other while riding! Basically it is a tandem stroller (one child in front, the other in back) but with the handy seat changing (and removing) features, this could just be one of the most convenient strollers ever, depending on parents' needs. Retail price for this stroller is around $250 - $270 (depending on the version chosen), and can be found for a nice discount online.

5. Peg Perego Aria Double - The highlight of this stroller is the fact that it is especially made for two children of different ages. It is a side-by-side stroller, one of the seats able to accommodate a Peg Perego car seat, the other for a larger size youngster. Peg Perego strollers and seats are widely known for their amazing quality and safety features, and this stroller appears to be no exception to this. Retail price for the Peg Perego Aria Double is around $360, but can most definitely be found at a price much lower than that from some online resources.

For anyone who is shopping for a great "duo" stroller for 2010 (and beyond), the list of the top 5 double strollers for 2010 is at least a great place to start.
